What is Bio-security Management Plan (BSMP)

This book deals with the broad issue of bio-security and just not on Hendra. There are a number of infectious diseases that horses can get and some of those are zoonotic and by addressing things like hygiene and segregation and health statements you are already reducing the risk for spread of infectious agents.

What event organisers and any animal owners need to understand is that new infectious agents arise from time to time and experience in the past 30 years is that about 70% of those are harmful to humans. SARRS, Hendra and Nipah are some of the more  prominent ones emerging in recent years that many people would have heard about. Another that is less well known is one called Middle Eastern respiratory Coronavirus that has a reservoir in camels and perhaps bats and there have been around 100 cases to date and 30% have been fatal.

Bio-security protocols in place now then even if new infectious agents arise there is a good chance that these protocols will stop them spreading.

BSMP is to difficult to fill out and understand

Yes they can be, so we have filled one out for you (BSMP helpful tips and guidelines) so it can be easier for committees to refer to.

This will make it a lot more easier for a committee to fill their own out to suit their competition requirements.

This BSMP has been Approved and Endorsed by the DPI nsw
